Queen Creek in Maricopa and Pinal counties in the beautiful San Tan Mountains was incorporated on September 5, 1989. At the 2010 census, the population was 26,361, and that grew to an estimate in July of 2016 to 33,649. The name originated from the Silver Queen, one of the ore mines that opened up in the mountains. At its base was what became Queen Creek, a creek that runs down the mountains through the Queen Creek Canyon and into what is the present day Town of Queen Creek.
According to real estate trends by Zillow's data through January 31, 2018, the average value of homes for sale is $245,300. This has increased 7.8 percent over the last year and predicting that it will rise 2.3 percent within this next year. The median rent price on house listings is $1,250, lower than the median in Phoenix Metro of $1,395. Of the properties for sale, only 0.2 per 10,000 homes are foreclosed, which is lower than the Phoenix Metro 0.5 and also lower than the national 1.6.
The town is served by six public school districts along with private and schools as well as the Communiversity at Queen Creek. The top rated schools are Jack Barnes Elementary School with a rating of “10,” and Desert Mountain Elementary School, Cortina Elementary School, and Benjamin Franklin High School with ratings of “9.”
A fun fact, the San Tan Historical Society Museum is located in the Old Rittenhouse Elementary School, built in 1925, which was a school through 1982. It is now on the National Registry for Historic Places and is open every Saturday morning with exhibits.
