Gilbert is southeast of Phoenix in Maricopa County. It is the fifth-largest town in the Metropolitan Phoenix Area as well as Arizona's sixth-largest municipality and the United States' most populous incorporated town. The town's total area is 68.20 square miles with 68.00 square miles being land and 0.20 square miles being water.


The town has grown at a very high rate and increased in population from 5,717 in 1980 to 208,453 in the 2010 census, and an estimate of 237,133 in 2016. It rapidly transformed from a community based on agriculture to a vibrant suburban center that is economically diverse with successful businesses, award-winning restaurants, shops including unique boutiques and the SanTan Village premier outdoor mall, art galleries, three theaters including the Hale Centre Theatre “in-the-round,” and other enjoyable activities.

Zillow reports that their data through January 31, 2018, shows real estate trends that say the market temperature in Gilbert is “Very Hot.” The average value of houses for sale is $309,400, having increased 6.9 percent over the last year and predicting that it will rise 2.1 percent in the coming year. Gilbert Historical Museum

Housed in the former Gilbert Elementary School that was built in 1913 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This museum has multi-generational programs, Storytellers, History Cafes, and seasonal and gardening workshops. In addition there are a large collection of vintage oral histories, archives, photographs, and artifacts regarding the lives of settlers in the Western United States.

Other Attractions and Recreation

There are five major parks including the Cosmo Dog Park, four community recreation centers, four community pools, six golf courses and an indoor ice arena. If you enjoy the out doors, check out the The Tonto National Forest and the Saguaro National Park. Gilbert is also the host to a multitude of festivals, sporting tournaments, farmers markets, academic conferences, and art walks.
